So with with the holiday season upon us, I think a nice way to celebrate the spirit of the season is to share. For me, music is a big inspiration and an absolute necessity as I write. It’s true, we’re all being inundated everywhere we go with Christmas tunes, but I want to share some you might not hear at the mall. So stop in everyday for a new song. Maybe you’ll find something you like and add it to your holiday playlist, or maybe you’ll smile at a memory one of the songs brings up. Either way, I hope you enjoy them.
Today’s selection, “Mr. Heatmiser”, is from The Year Without a Santa Claus, an old Rankin Bass stop motion TV special from my childhood. This version is done, quite well I think, by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
And for the traditionalists, here’s the original.
Since I’m sure everyone is busy with family, friends, or the like, I’m just going to share something fitting to the holiday. As a kid, I grew up loving the Rankin & Bass stop-motion specials: Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, Frosty the snowman, Santa Claus is coming to town. But my favorite has always been “The Year Without Santa Claus”, particularly the Heat Miser/Snow Miser songs. So here is Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s take on those songs (combined into one song).
I’ve never been one who’s had issue with saying “happy holidays” instead of “merry Christmas”. That’s probably because I remember when happy holidays simply replaced merry Christmas and happy new year. That being said, I also have no issue with wishing everyone a merry Christmas, whether you celebrate that holiday (religious or secular) or not. So merry Christmas all. See you next year.
